Highlights

The Nursery Class enjoyed reading bedtime stories together as a class. During Active Learning, the students learned about movements, such as crawling and jumping out of tunnels, and throwing and catching balls. 

The Pre-K Class learned about the letter “K” during Phonics. They also learned about the pronunciation of words starting with “K”, such as “kangaroo” and “key”. During Nursery Rhymes, the students enjoyed singing and dancing to many songs.

Nearing the end of the First Quarter, the K-1 students had to work on many different tests. In their Reading and Phonics Class, they had to read short passages from books they’ve read in class. During Math, they had to identify the number of objects that were in each set. 

The K-2 Class practiced counting numbers 1 to 100 in their Math Class. In their Phonics Class, they students continued learning about the alphabet. This week, the class focused on the letter “K”. The students also spent most of their time this week, writing and drawing in their journals.

The K-3 Class received another surprise; a postcard from New York has arrived. The students learned about New York City, such as, the popular landmarks, the state bird, the changing seasons, and the song “This Land Is Your Land”, their pen pals from New York are learning about.

The Nursery Class enjoyed learning about building blocks this week. The students were able to create many different objects from the blocks, such as, an airplane, a car, and a giant castle. During Play Dough, the students learned about movements, such as, pushing and pulling.

The Pre-K Class learned about how to pronounce the letter “J” and words starting with the letter, such as, “jigsaw” and “jacks”. The students also learned to identify the sound each animal makes. They also learned a new Nursery Rhyme, which is, "Jack and Jill". For Math, the class focused on shapes and colors. 

After the completion of their first Phonics workbook, the students of K-1 reviewed how to pronounce the names of different animals, as well as, learning about animal sounds. During their Physical Education class, the students focused on hopping, which all were able to participate in a game called “Hopscotch”.

The students of K-2 practiced writing the letter “J”, both in upper and lower cases. In their Physical Education class, the students practiced stretching their muscles. During Active Learning, the class enjoyed conducting a science experiment where they mixed baking soda with vinegar, and watched what would happen. 

The students of K-3 worked on their Book Reports this week. Nearing the end of the First Quarter, the students have read up to eight books so far. As a class project, each student chose a book they loved to read the most and created an individual poster, which was used for their class presentation. 

Week 9:

October 12th-16th, 2015

 

 

The Nursery Class learned about identifying colors and enjoyed singing to Nursery Songs such as “The Wheels on the Bus”. The students also reviewed the things they’ve learned last week.

The students of the Pre-K Class learned about the letter “I” this week. They learned to pronounce words such “Ice-cream” and “Igloo”. The students also learned about the different countries of the world. They enjoyed coloring pictures and sharing stories.

The students of K-1 completed their first Phonics workbook, “Animals”. For Handwriting, the students learned to write the letter “I”, both in upper and lower cases. 

The students of K-2 brought their favorite toys for this week’s Show-and-Tell. During Reading, the students made inchworms out of colored circle papers and the letter “I”. 

Nearing the end of the 1st Quarter, the K-3 Class had to take a Phonics Unit Test. While some were taking the test, the rest of the class made drawings of what they think their future would be like and shared to the rest of the class. 

Week 8:

October 5th-9th, 2015

 

 

The Nursery Class enjoyed singing to nursery songs and reviewed the things they’ve learned from last week, such as, balancing and building blocks, pronouncing animals’ names, and coloring.

The students of the Pre-K Class learned about emotions this week. They enjoyed an entertaining classroom activity where they had to act according to the assigned “feeling”. For Math, the students practiced counting and identifying numbers.

The K-1 Class enjoyed drawing family portraits during Arts and Crafts. During Math, the students reviewed counting their numbers and used colored plastic chains to conduct a classroom activity. 

The students of K-2 enjoyed reenacting different emotions. Some of the featured emotions include being “angry”, “confused”, and “surprised”. During their Physical Education class, the students focused on stretching their muscles and played a racing game to warm up. 

As we get closer to International Costume Day (October 16), the K-3 students learned about the different countries of the world. They really enjoyed learning more about the countries their penpals live in. As a class activity, the students chose to color pictures of the different destinations. For Math, the students worked on counting and problem solving.
